Iowa 122 Project In Mason City Gets Traffic Pattern Change Wednesday (04.23)
Work is moving forward on the Iowa Highway 122 project in Mason City.
The Iowa DOT’s Mason City construction office says crews have finished stage one of the project ahead of schedule and are now prepared for stage two.
Through Tuesday (04.22), the traffic pattern on Iowa 122 allowed one lane of traffic in each direction at Pierce and Monroe Avenues. On Wednesday (04.23), until around Memorial Day, crews switched the roadway to a head-to-head traffic pattern in the eastbound lanes of Iowa 122.
During this stage of the project there will be no left turns allowed on Iowa 122 or from any side streets between Pierce and Monroe Avenues. In addition, the intersection to access MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center at Crescent and Taylor Avenues will also be closed for reconstruction.
The DOT’s Pete Hjelmstad says, despite the disruptions, access to the hospital will be maintained throughout the project.
Starting Wednesday, if you’re driving west on Iowa 122, you will access the hospital from Mercy Drive. When driving east, you will access the hospital from Pierce Avenue (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
