Soon to be Two K9s Serving Law Enforcement in Chickasaw County

In about six months, there will be two law enforcement K9s on duty in Chickasaw County.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office has K9, Duke, while New Hampton Police Chief Conrad Rosendahl says launching their own K9 unit is getting closer to reality.

Rosendahl adds that they are also getting closer to securing all the funding needed to cover the startup costs of the K9 Unit.

Chickasaw County Sheriff Ryan Shawver says he’s excited for the NHPD having its own K9 unit and enhancing law enforcement in the county.

Shawver also notes that the CCSO has a healthy fund available when the time comes to retire Duke, a single-purpose canine.

Duke and handler, Deputy Stephen Johnson have been with the sheriff’s office since coming over from the then-Nashua Police Department about six years ago.
