The Charles City Water Department will begin flushing the water distribution system this Monday (04.28).
Water Superintendent Cory Spieker says, “This process helps to remove any deposits that may be built up on the interior walls of the water mains, and helps ensure that the water quality is maintained throughout the system. Customers may experience fluctuations in pressure and/or discoloration of their water during flushing. If you experience discoloration, run your cold water tap until it clears.”
Water main flushing in Charles City is expected to be completed by May 16th.

The City of New Hampton will also begin flushing hydrants on Monday, weather permitting. Residents are also advised to run water to clear your lines before using, especially before washing clothes.
The Public Works Department estimates hydrant flushing in New Hampton will take about three weeks to complete.
