Nashua-Plainfield’s Huck Scores Drake Relays Title

Nashua-Plainfield’s Kadence Huck, a two-time Class 1A state champion in the girls 800 meters, is now a Drake Relays champ in the event. Huck beat a strong field and was pulling away at the end as she finished in 2:10.51 on Saturday (04.26) in Des Moines. The winning time is a new personal and school record for Huck AND is now 19th on the state’s all-time list. 

Huck ran to two other Top 5 finishes at the Drake Relays, finishing as the state runner-up in the 400 meters and 4th in the 1500 meters, also setting new personal and school records in the process.

A senior, Huck will continue her track and field career at Oklahoma State.

Clear Lake senior Reese Brownlee became just the second high school girls athlete to win three individual titles in the same Drake Relays, joining Shelby Houlihan who won the 800, 1500 and 3000 in 2011, competing for Sioux City East. Brownlee won the long jump Thursday, 400 Friday (beating out Huck) and set a Drake Relays record in the 400 hurdles Saturday. 

Charlee Morton of Hampton-Dumont-CAL became the second athlete to capture three straight titles in the girls shot put with her winning throw of 46-9 ¼. She was the runner-up in the discus on Thursday (04.240 after winning that event the two previous years.
