Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson and newly promoted Investigator Jordan Smith shared updates on local safety initiatives. They discussed the new hands-free driving law effective July 1, aimed at reducing distracted driving accidents, which are prevalent in Charles City. Chief Anderson highlighted the law’s expansion to all drivers, prohibiting the use of electronic devices while driving, except for single-button voice commands.

The duo also touched on upcoming events, including a one-day STEP enforcement on Cinco de Mayo and National Police Memorial Week, with a special memorial dedication in Plainfield, Iowa, for a fallen officer. Investigator Smith shared insights into his role, emphasizing thorough investigations into serious crimes, offering a glimpse into the dedication behind keeping Charles City safe.
