Floyd Co. Supervisors Approve FY25-26 Budget After (Very) Brief Public Hearing

Not by design, but the Floyd County Board of Supervisors held a very brief public hearing Tuesday (04.29) on the proposed County budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
During the hearing, only Gordon Boge with the Coalition for Better County Government offered public comments on the budget.
Board Chair Dennis Keifer responded, “You won’t even notice this one, Gordie,” and the public hearing was closed after about one minute.
In preparing the FY25-26 budget, Supervisors, including first-term Board member, Boyd Campbell, asked department heads to look at trimming costs in an effort to keep property tax rates close to the levels in the current ‘24-25 fiscal year, while also avoiding staff cuts. He saluted them Tuesday for stepping up to the plate.
Supervisors approved the County’s FY25-26 budget on a 3-0 vote, with property tax rates of $6.20 per $1,000 of taxable valuation for urban/citywide property tax payers (down from the current $6.34) and $9.66 for rural property tax payers (down from $9.84) to take effect July 1st.
