In this week’s PAWS Pet of the Week, Jacie Peichel, assistant director of PAWS Humane Society in Charles City, introduces Zane, a charismatic two-year-old black and white tuxedo cat. Known for his “mismatched socks” markings and a speck of black on his nose, Zane is an outgoing and friendly feline who loves to explore and claim the highest spots. Initially shy, he quickly warms up, showcasing his curious and brave personality. Zane is house-trained, vaccinated, neutered, and gets along well with other cats and children, making him an ideal companion for a loving family. Jacie also shares updates on PAWS’ partnership with Petco, their upcoming Mother’s Day tattoo fundraiser on May 11, and the shelter’s need for cat litter, paper towels, and dog treats. Two dogs, Misty and Cinco, are also highlighted as they seek their forever homes.

For more information on Zane or any of the other pets waiting on their forever home, go to PAWSCharlesCity.com.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
