Caring Bridge/GoFundMe Accounts Established for Charles City Farmer Seriously Injured in Tractor/Truck Collision

A GoFundMe account has been established for a Charles City farmer who was seriously injured after the tractor he was operating, pulling a planter, was struck by a UPS truck.

The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says the wreck occurred on Highway 218, about one-and-a-half miles southeast of Charles City, Friday (05.09) morning A Ford F650 driven by 37-year-old Trevor Winfrey of Rockwell, struck the planter, causing it and the John Deere tractor, operated by 54-year-old William Ruzicka of Charles City, to spin around and flip into the east ditch. Winfrey’s truck also ended up in the same ditch.

Ruzicka was ejected from the tractor, while ISP says wearing a seatbelt saved Winfrey’s life.

Both men were transported by AMR Ambulance to Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) in Charles City. Ruzicka was then airlifted by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

The family has established a CaringBridge account to post updates on Ruzicka’s medical status. Updates on Sunday (05.11) said he remained in mostly stable condition through the weekend after suffering a “significant amount of injuries.” On Monday (05.12), he was scheduled for surgery to fix an orbital fracture.

A Bill’s Recovery and Care GoFundMe account is also set up to help offset his medical costs. As of 10 am Tuesday (05.13), about $5,500 in donations had been raised towards a goal of $25,000.
