It was graduation Sunday (05.18) for most area high schools including Riceville, Turkey Valley, North Butler, Sumner-Fredericksburg, Central Springs, Saint Ansgar, Osage, Howard-Winneshiek, New Hampton, Nashua-Plainfield and Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock.
At Charles City, senior Savannah Baldus asked her fellow classmates to make a promise.
Senior Blake Hoeft encouraged grads to make the most of their opportunities.
In his speech, Hoeft also referenced classmate Ayden Stafford, who passed away in December. He urged his classmates to be there when someone is struggling and to be a friend, because you may be able to make more of a difference than you realize.
Stafford was honored Sunday with an empty seat among the Comets graduating class.
