Air Conditioning a “Hot Topic” for Chickasaw County Supervisors
For the second time this month, air conditioning was a “hot topic” for Chickasaw County Supervisors.
During their meeting May 19th, maintenance coordinator Dave Gorman told Supervisors that the AC unit, on the roof of the Chickasaw County Courthouse in New Hampton, has been doing well since repairs were made to get it running earlier in the month.
A fact not lost on County Attorney David Laudner.
Gorman pondered how much longer they can keep the current unit going.
Even if the County decides to purchase a new unit, Gorman said it could take almost four months for delivery.
Supervisor Steven Breitbach tried to put things in perspective.
Gorman estimates the cost of a new AC between $100,000 and $150,000, which Supervisor Jacob Hackman said would require a budget amendment to pay for. That in and of itself is challenging given the County’s 2025-2026 fiscal year budget was trimmed significantly, leaving little wiggle room for unexpected capital improvements.
