Floyd County Medical Center $40 Million Expansion Over One-Third Complete

 A $40 million dollar expansion project at Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) is now over one-third complete.

A recent Facebook post from the Charles City hospital noted that construction reached 35% completion as of May 16th. Highlights include completed framing of the third floor area, plus first floor waste and vent systems. Crews also laid the first bricks for the new clinic last week. 

It’s the largest expansion at the hospital since it was built in 1965, which FCMC noted in a Facebook post on Monday (05.26), was then Floyd County Memorial Hospital, constructed in dedication to all veterans of Floyd County. 

Renovations to the main hospital include a new entrance with atrium, drive-under canopy, registration and waiting areas, new speech and occupational therapy departments. There will also be updates and expansion to the lab department, new conference and training room and increased convenient parking. The changes will also see a new hospital pharmacy with improvements to accommodate future oncology infusions.

The construction project also includes a new three-story clinic, including the Rural Health Family Practice clinic housing Obstetrics and Urgent Care, plus a new Outpatient Specialist Clinic.

Anticipated completion is Spring 2026.

FCMC also notes that the Urgent Care Clinic is updating their lunch hours from 1:15 pm to 1:45 pm, which will allow more patients to be seen over the noon hour.

The clinic will still operate from 8 am to 8 pm.
