Foster Grandparent Program Secures Funding, Seeks Volunteers to Support Local Kids

In our latest Community Conversation, Jennifer Lantz from the Foster Grandparent Program shares exciting news about securing federal funding despite earlier Doge cuts that eliminated 16 Iowa programs. The program, part of AmeriCorps Seniors, supports kids in Floyd, Chickasaw, Mitchell, and Cerro Gordo counties by pairing them with volunteers aged 55+ who provide mentorship, tutoring, and emotional support in schools and daycares. While awaiting final grant details, Jennifer highlights the program’s impact on both children and volunteers, who gain purpose and connection. With a looming budget threat in the president’s proposal, community support is crucial. The program is also recruiting foster grandparents.
