Floyd County Supervisor Keifer Passes Away

A top Floyd County official has died.
Supervisor Dennis Keifer passed away Tuesday (06.10).
Fellow Supervisor Gloria Carr, who also worked with Keifer as the Floyd County Auditor, said in a statement:
“I am saddened to hear the news of Supervisor Dennis Keifer passing away. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends. He has been a dedicated member of the Board of Supervisors, showing passion and commitment to his position. My prayers are for peace and comfort during this challenging time.”
The 73-year-old Keifer was named Board Chair in January and was the most senior member on the Floyd County Supervisors. He was elected to the District 2 Supervisor seat in November 2022 and sworn into office In January 2023.
Floyd County can appoint a replacement or hold a special election to fill Keifer’s seat, with his term running until the end of 2026. Even if an appointment is made, eligible voters in District 2 could file a petition to force a special election to fill the position.
A celebration of life for Keifer will be held from 4 to 8 pm Monday, June 23, in the Swartzrock Community Center on the Floyd County Fairgrounds.
