July Mobile Food Pantries Tuesday (07.01) in Cresco, Wednesday (07.02) in Charles City…Volunteers Needed

Month two of Healthy Kids Iowa food distribution through mobile food pantries in Howard and Floyd counties kicks off Tuesday (07.01) in Cresco.
The Northeast Iowa Food Bank (NEIFB) says Healthy Kids expands access to nutritious food this summer for families with kids ages 4-to-18. Each child in each household who qualifies through the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) can receive an extra $40 in fruits, vegetables, dairy, grains, and proteins per child in each month of June, July, and August.
In Howard County, distributions happen through the Cresco Mobile Pantry on the first Tuesday of the month, with the July mobile food pantry from 4:30 to 5:30 pm Tuesday (07.01) on the Howard County Fairgrounds.
In Floyd County, distribution through the Charles City Mobile Pantry is the first Wednesday of the month from 5 to 6 pm on the Floyd County Fairgrounds, where site organizer Jen Burton says they had record attendance for their June 4th event. That volume meant they ran out of both the Healthy Kids food and the normal food distributed.
Thus, Burton says the Northeast Iowa Food Bank is increasing food for both programs so we don’t turn anyone away. For this Wednesday (07.02), they will be packing for 385 households – their biggest number yet, as well 216 kids for the summer kid program food.
Burton says it will take three trucks instead of the regular two to deliver all the food, with extra volunteers needed to pull food together for distribution.
Anyone willing to volunteer can contact Burton at 641-220-1769.
