Chickasaw County Supervisors Still Weighing Better-Than-Expected Funding Carryover

Chickasaw County ended the 2024-2025 fiscal year with a better-than-expected ending fund balance…by over one million dollars.
What was expected to be about $1.6 million on June 30th was actually about $2.9 million, thanks in part to surpluses coming from unexpected revenues and departments returning over $575,000 in unspent funding.
Since then, Chickasaw County Supervisors have been fielding requests from department heads for money to be added back to their budgets for the 2025-2026 fiscal year that just began July 1st.
During their regular meeting Monday (07.28), Supervisor Jacob Hackman suggested some money should go to cover needed repairs.
Supervisor Issac Carter lobbied to restore some funding to Chickasaw County Public Health, whose budget was cut over $350,000, which largely impacted the County’s home health services.
County Attorney David Laudner asked for guidance on how department heads should approach their budget requests.
Since the issue wasn’t on the agenda, Supervisors could take no action, but Hackman said it would likely be on next week’s agenda.
Before Supervisors could make any spending amendments to the budget, they would have to hold a public hearing first.
