City Hall, Police Department Makeover in Charles City to Finish in May 2026

Renovations to City Hall and the police department in Charles City continue to push forward, while the target date for completion has been pushed back.
During Monday (08.18) night’s City Council meeting, City Engineer John Fallis said that the latest timeline from the project contractor, Kingland Construction of Forest City, calls for “substantial completion” by May 2026.
The some $4.5 million makeover was targeted for a March 2026 finish, but Fallis said one of the main factors in the delay being the extra wall that had to be constructed while replacing the arches on the east side of the building.
Fallis also presented the Council with the latest payment request for the construction.
The Council approved the payment, which Fallis said largely covered mechanical and HVAC work, plus some demolition.
