Special Election for Floyd Co. District 2 Supervisor Seat Tuesday (09.23); Polls Open Until 8 PM

It’s “special election day” for the District 2 seat on the Floyd County Board of Supervisors.

Former District 2 Supervisor Dennis Keifer passed away in June and, in July, Joshua Neupert was appointed to fill Keifer’s seat. Despite Neupert’s appointment, a petition of eligible voters in District 2 was filed to force the special election, set for Tuesday (09.23).

Neupert is the Floyd County Republican nominee, with former Floyd County Treasurer Frank Rottinghaus running as the Democratic nominee. Non-party candidates could also get on the ballot with at least 50 names of eligible voters in District 2, which includes all of Charles City north of the Cedar River, plus the part of St. Charles Township that is north of the city.

Aaron Hobert, member of the St. Charles Township Board of Trustees, and attorney and farmer Doug Lindaman are both running as independents.

In-person absentee voting ended Monday (09.22) and mail-in absentee ballots must be received by the Floyd County Auditor’s Office by election day. If they are received after Tuesday, the ballots will not be counted.

All voting on Election Day, open only to eligible voters in District 2, must be done at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, with polls open from 7 am to 8 pm September 23rd. CC2 voters will vote with CC3 at Trinity UMC.

Bring an ID with you to cast your ballots and, if you are registering to vote on Election Day, you’ll also need proof of residence.

Acceptable forms of ID: Iowa Driver’s License or Non-Operator ID (not expired more than 90 days); U.S. Passport (not expired); Military or Veteran ID (not expired); Iowa Voter ID Card (must be signed); Tribal ID (signed, photo, not expired)

Neupert will continue to serve as the appointed supervisor until voting results are certified. Whoever wins will serve out the remainder of Keifer’s term, which runs until the end of 2026.
