Student’s “Call 911” Note Leads to Arrest of Bahamas Man in Northeast Iowa

A note reading “Call 911,” that a student handed to a bus driver, has led to kidnapping and assault charges against a male subject in northeast Iowa.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) says a Sumner-Fredericksburg student handed the note to the bus driver last Wednesday (09.24) morning, prompting a swift response by deputies to a rural Westgate residence. At the home, FCSO discovered a woman, the student’s mother, was being held against her will.
Their investigation revealed that 29-year-old Glenroy Stefand Miller, of the Bahamas, had taken the victim’s phone, preventing her from calling for help. FCSO alleges that Miller had assaulted the woman throughout the night, including threatening to kill her by holding a knife to her throat.
After causing the woman serious injuries, FCSO says Miller attempted to take her to the hospital before changing his mind, fearing he would go to jail, and they returned to the residence.
Miller has been charged with second-degree kidnapping – armed with a dangerous weapon, a Class B felony; willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony; and domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. He also faces one count of obstructing an emergency communication, a serious misdemeanor.
Miller is being held at the Fayette County Jail on $25,000 cash-only bond awaiting his initial appearance in Fayette County District Court.
Authorities have also placed an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer on him.
