Saxony Back Open in Downtown Charles City After Next Door August Fire, Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Just over a month after a fire in The Main Event building in downtown Charles City interrupted their operations, Saxony is back with their Fall Open House now through Saturday (10.04).
The women’s clothing store was closed by the August 23rd blaze, though there was no fire in the store itself. Owner Lisa Richter says she was in her own building just hours before the fire.
While Richter called the fire an “overwhelming shock,” she was determined to get the store back open.
The store reopened briefly August 29th for a four-day “Fire Sale,” but then closed for major cleaning. They had a “soft opening” last week and have the Fall Open House going on this week.
The Charles City Chamber Ambassadors held a ribbon cutting Tuesday (09.30) to mark the store’s return as well as they 50th anniversary of business in Charles City. Though Richter notes her mother started in modest surroundings.
Richter says they’ve seen a transformation of the business over the years.
Meanwhile the ISU Extension and Outreach Floyd County on the other side of The Main Event remains temporarily closed, with staff continue to work remotely or from alternate locations
