The public is invited to participate in the main events of Crown Prince Haakon’s visit:

  • 10 a.m., Street Festival Celebration, on and around the Vesterheim campus

Crown Prince Haakon’s visit will highlight the deep cultural and historical ties between Norway and the U.S. and promote cooperation in business, education and culture.

The visit to Decorah will be the ninth by members of the Norwegian royal family since 1939; with the last visit was in 2011, when King Harald V and Queen Sonja attended Luther’s sesquicentennial celebration.

Decorah Police have issued a traffic advisory in advance of the prince’s visit:

Please expect traffic delays on Monday October 6, 2025. Water Street between Mechanic and Mill will be temporarily blocked off by 8:00 am, causing a detour in traffic flow for school traffic. There will be multiple areas of no parking-signs will be placed Sunday night and will be removed Monday night. This may cause some inconvenience, but it will only be temporary as we celebrate the Crown Prince of Norway’s visit to Decorah. Come out and join the fun!
