Future Forward Hosts Community Meeting on $30 Million CCHS Bond

Some 60 people attended a Community Meeting Wednesday (10.08) night to learn more about the $30 million bond referendum to pay for renovations, upgrades and improvements to Charles City High School, originally constructed over 65 years ago.

The info session was hosted by the Future Forward CC Bond 2025 Committee, which includes longtime, former teacher Jim Lundberg, who still subs at the High School. He said updates to the building are long overdue.

Those improvements will be far-reaching, according to Matt Basye with FEH Design, consultants for the project.

One group to benefit the most are students with mobility issues, which Chuck Staudt also noted ADA updates are also long overdue.

Passage of the bond on November 4th requires a 60% supermajority YES vote.

*Ballot measure language:

Shall the Board of Directors of the Charles City Community School District in the Counties of Chickasaw and Floyd, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $30,000,000 to provide funds for completing needed upgrades including but not limited to safety, security systems, building code and ADA requirements by removing portions of the existing High School building and reconstructing, building, furnishing and equipping additions, including related remodeling and site improvements; and to remodel, renovate, improve, repair, furnish, and equip other portions of the existing High School?
