City of New Hampton to Begin Hydrant Flushing Monday (10.20)
The New Hampton Streets Department will begin citywide hydrant flushing on Monday (10.20).
Kyle Anderson, the City’s Street, Water and Sanitary Collection Superintendent, says the process should only take a few weeks, but they’re not putting a time stamp on it. He says their route will start by flushing hydrants closest to city water towers and then working away from the towers.
Anderson also reminds residents to not get worried if and/or when your water looks a little on the rust side. He advises running the water for a bit and any rust will work itself out.
Last month, the City replaced 13 fire hydrants at an average cost around $8,000 per hydrant, including parts, rock and blocking, and labor, with the work done by Blazek Corporation of Lawler. Anderson noted that the project was budgeted for in advance, with the hydrant replacements needed to assure good water service.
