Floyd County Medical Center to Open Memorial Garden Next Month

More than just a three-story clinic is currently under construction at Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC).
In August, the Charles City hospital began groundwork for a new memorial garden, repurposing the formerly wooded area adjacent to the patient parking lot on 13th Street. The project has been in development for several months, with collaboration between FCMC and Otto’s Oasis, Deutsch Tree Service, Perry Novack Electric, Mick Gage Heating and Plumbing, and Goats on the Go.
The community is invited to leave their legacy at FCMC by sponsoring one of the elements of the memorial garden, which will feature a walking path, newly planted trees and shrubs, picnic tables, park benches, and a waterfall.
While there is no limit on sponsored bricks, only five picnic tables and seven park benches are available for sponsorship. The waterfall feature will likely require multiple sponsors, so a plaque with the names of the sponsors will be placed in front of it.
General donors to the memorial garden will be recognized on a sign near the start of the walking path.
Makenzie McNeill, director of marketing at FCMC, says. “Being a sponsor of the memorial garden is a great way to preserve one’s impact at FCMC, as well as remember those who have so generously supported our community hospital.”
The memorial garden is set to open in November.
