Charles City voters can meet and hear from candidates for school board and city council at a Candidate Forum, set for 6:30 pm on  Thursday (10.30) at the Community Center in Charles City.

Hosted by the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce, the forum will focus on the contested race for the Charles City School District Board of Directors. However, uncontested candidates on the ballot for mayor and city council in Charles City have also been invited to be recognized and say a few words at the event.

There are three seats on the school board up for election, with incumbents David Schrodt, Kathryn Fox and Josh Mack seeking re-election, along with challenger Steve Boucher.

Running uncontested and seeking re-election is Mayor Dean Andrews, as well as Council members Patrick Lumley and recent appointee Krista Noah, who replaced Keith Starr who resigned due his full-time job. Also running for city council is Jeff Otto, who is seeking the seat currently held by DeLaine Freeseman who will be stepping down at the end of this term on December 31st.

The public is encouraged to attend to get to know their candidates better and where they stand on the issues. Audience members will be able to submit questions to the school board candidates in writing the first part of the forum, or send them in advance to [email protected]

The cutoff for submitted questions is 4 pm on October 30th. No verbal questions from the audience will be allowed during the forum.
