Truck vs Minivan Crash Kills Elderly Woman, Husband Injured

One woman is dead and her husband injured after a two-vehicle collision in northeast Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) says the crash occurred around 2 pm Thursday (10.30) at the intersection of Highway 52 and Town Line Road, about five miles southwest of Decorah. The crash report states a 2016 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, driven by 91-year-old Melvin Rausch of Fort Atkinson, was heading south on Highway 52 when a 2001 Mack truck, operated by 62-year-old Rodney Freidhof of Cresco, failed to stop at a posted stop sign.
ISP says the truck pulled into the intersection and into the path of the minivan.
A passenger in the minivan, 87-year-old Mary Rausch, was transported by Decorah Ambulance to WinnMed hospital in Decorah, where she died from her injuries. Melvin Rausch was also taken to WinnMed for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The ISP crash report does not indicate any injuries to Freidhof.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Decorah Fire Department, and Decorah Police also assisted at the scene.
