Bond for Sumner-Fredericksburg Schools Back on Ballot Next Year?

Despite Tuesday’s (11.04) defeat of a $16.25 million bond referendum in the Sumner-Fredericksburg School District, Superintendent Ryan Cunningham says he’s hopeful to take another run at it next year.

Cunningham made his comments to stakeholders in a video posted on the school district’s Facebook page following the vote that saw the measure fall with 54% NO votes to 46% YES votes. A 60% supermajority YES vote was needed to pass.

The bond, which would’ve been supplemented with $11 million in SAVE funds, would’ve helped pay for upgrades and improvements as well as consolidate from four school buildings to two.

Cunningham says officials are committed to enhancing the student experience at Sumner-Fredericksburg.

During campaigning efforts to get the bond passed, Cunningham noted that the upgrades and changes needed in the school district are not possible with current state funding levels.
