It’s Been a Week for the South Winneshiek School District

It’s been quite a week for the South Winneshiek School District.
Last Saturday (11.01), the Warriors’ Hugh Conway won the boys Class 1A state cross county individual title while the South Winn girls won the Class 2A team crown.
On Tuesday (11.04), voters in the South Winn School District approved a $13 million bond referendum, with 68% YES votes to 32% NO votes.
In a social media message to the district, Superintendent Kris Einck said, “As a result, we will move forward with our plan to renovate and expand South Winn High School to approximately 81,610 square feet. This project will improve the learning environment, safety, and career readiness for our students for many years to come.”
Additions at the high school, which dates back to 1930, include classrooms, cafeteria, library, gymnasium, and a new main entrance on the north side.
Einck added, “We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community for this project. We also deeply appreciate the high level of engagement and great questions we received throughout the process. We hope this continues as we move forward.”
On Wednesday (11.05), the school district learned that South Winneshiek Elementary in Ossian was ranked as the 65th best elementary school in Iowa by U.S. News and World Report.
Other elementary schools ranked include Denver at #11, St. Ansgar at #32, Shell Rock at #40, Dunkerton at #49, Turkey Valley at #59, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura at #85, Tripoli at #92, Forest City at #98, New Albin at #99, and Clarksville at #100.
