New Hampton Police Department to Add New Certified Officer Later This Month

The New Hampton City Council gave the greenlight to the hire earlier this month and now the number of certified patrol officers in the New Hampton Police Department (NHPD) is set to grow by one within a couple of weeks.
During their November 3rd meeting, the Council voted in favor of Chief Conrad Rosendahl’s request to hire Lucas Kleckner, who is currently employed with the City of Belmond Police Department.
Rosendahl says Kleckner, originally from the Osage area, has been fully approved for hire and has accepted a position with the New Hampton Police Department. Kleckner is an Iowa certified peace officer and is scheduled to start November 24th
Kleckner has a contract with the Belmond PD for his training, which Mayor Steve Geerts says the City of New Hampton will pay off that contract of $8,836.74.
Police academy training can run between $20,000 and $25,000.
Rosendahl adds that Kleckner will be required to sign a new four-year contract with NHPD prior to his start date.
Kleckner is also expected to take over as handler of the department’s new K9, Ozkar. Rosendahl, currently the K9’s handler, says Kleckner and Ozkar will likely go through training early next year.
