Driver Dead After Crashing Vehicle into Northeast Iowa Home
One person is dead after crashing a car into a northeast Iowa home.
The Independence Fire Department says they were dispatched to the 500 block of 8th Avenue Northeast just before noon Sunday (11.30) after a vehicle that had struck a house. While en route, crews were advised the driver was unresponsive and law enforcement on scene had begun CPR.
Upon arrival, responders found the vehicle had left the roadway, struck a parked car, and then collided with the residence before coming to rest. Crews provided Advanced Life Support care and continued CPR until Jesup Ambulance arrived. The patient was transported to a local hospital, but despite all efforts, did not survive.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, and it’s unclear what caused the car to leave the roadway.
The impact damaged both electricity and gas lines inside the home, prompting emergency crews to secure the area. No additional injuries were reported, and those inside the home were not hurt.
The incident remains under investigation.
Also assisting at the scene was Independence Police, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, Jesup Ambulance, Independence Light & Power, MidAmerican Energy, and Lifeguard Air Ambulance.
