Northeast Iowa Man Accused of Assaulting Police Officers on Thanksgiving

A northeast Iowa man is facing multiple charges after he was accused of assaulting a female victim and the officers trying to arrest him early Thanksgiving morning.
Oelwein Police went to the 400 block of 8th Avenue Southeast in response to an abandoned 911 call shortly after 1:30 am last Thursday (11.27). Their investigation led to the arrest of 27-year-old Jacob Miller of Oelwein for domestic abuse assault, plus two counts of assault on persons of a certain occupation, all aggravated misdemeanors. He’s also charged with possession of marijuana and two counts of interference with official acts.
According to criminal complaints, at the scene, police heard a female screaming and crying as if she was being attacked. As officers opened the front door, Miller was instructed multiple times to stop but he continued down a hallway.
Officers then entered the house and again instructed Miller to stop. However, he turned around and approached one officer as though he was going to assault him. The officer then stiff-armed Miller to the ground.
OPD also alleges that while officers attempted to secure Miller, he made multiple attempts to assault both officers, swinging his elbows, legs and head at them. During their apprehension efforts, Miller was also found with a knife that was partially opened and laying on the ground beside him.
After being secured into handcuffs, OPD says Miller continued to physically resist and spit at officers. During a search of his person, officers also recovered a THC vape pen in Miller’s pocket.
The victim suffered multiple injuries to her face and hands, with Miller accused of throwing a glass object at her and punching in her face multiple times.
Miller was released from the Fayette County Jail after posting bail of a $2,000 surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing December 10th in Fayette County District Court.
