Charles City Man Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize

A Charles City man has won a $100,000 lottery prize.
The Iowa Lottery says Jon McCleary won the second top prize in the “Cash Frenzy” scratch game. He purchased his winning ticket at Liquor Beer & Tobacco Outlet in Charles City, and claimed his prize Friday (01.09) at the lottery’s Mason City regional office.
Cash Frenzy is a $10 scratch game that features eight top prizes of $100,000.
McCleary’s good fortune to start 2026 comes shortly after Rhonda Larson of Chester wrapped up 2025 by winning a top prize of $50,000 in the “Scratch, Match & Win” scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Route 63 Travel Plaza in Chester and won just two days before the Howard County woman was set to retire from the cleaning business she started.
Larson told the Iowa Lottery she plans to put some of her winnings toward a kitchen remodel and that “Everything just seems to fall in place.”
Scratch, Match & Win is a $5 scratch game inspired by the Iowa Lottery’s very first scratch game from 1985, with the nostalgic game offering players a chance to win one of eight top prizes of $50,000.
