Zach Sullivan from the Charles City Elks Lodge joins us to talk about the return of one of the community’s most talked-about winter events — the 2nd Annual Beer Curling Championships on Sat. Jan. 31st. After a strong debut last year, the event is back with more teams, more lanes, more prizes, and a few lessons learned to keep things running smoothly. Zach explains how beer curling works, what teams can expect on event day, how the tournament is structured, and how the fundraiser supports ongoing improvements and projects at the Elks Lodge. It’s a laid-back, winter-friendly event that brings competitors and spectators together for a full day of fun.

Team registration details, event information, and updates are available through the Charles City Elks Lodge #418 on Facebook. You can also visit charlescityelks.org or contact the lodge directly for signup information.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
