New Hampton Fire Department Adds Digital Alerting System, Looks to Add a New Fire Engine

The New Hampton Fire Department (NHFD) and the City of New Hampton continue to explore options to make the economics work for the future purchase a new main fire engine.

That’s NHFD Chief Toby Schwickerath, who says the price of a new engine is a moving target.

Schwickerath adds that, even if they pulled the trigger today to buy a fire truck, their current main engine would still be some two decades old by the time they would get a new one in the firehouse.

In the meantime, Schwickerath says the NHFD recently added the HAAS Digital Alerting System to its existing engines.

According to HAASalerts.com, digital alerts warn drivers of emergency vehicles and crews, work zones, and other hazards, allowing them more time to slow down, move over and make safer maneuvers. When emergency or flashing lights are activated, Safety Cloud begins notifying drivers that crews/vehicles are nearby.

The company says digital alerts are proven to be more effective today than traditional lights and sirens.
