Northeast Iowa Woman Found Guilty of Causing Fatal Crash with UTV

A northeast Iowa woman has been found guilty of causing a fatal UTV crash that occurred in October 2024.
According to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), a jury has convicted 64-year-old Susan J. Steve of Elkport guilty of Homicide by Vehicle While Intoxicated, A Class B felony; Serious Injury by Vehicle, a Class D felony; and Possession of Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor.
A CCSO press release states that, based on trial evidence, 63-year-old Randy McMillin of Elkader was operating a UTV and attempting to turn into a private driveway on Grandview Road near Elkader, when the UTV was hit from behind by Steve’s car in October 2024.
McMillin and his passenger, then 61-year-old Mary Ann McMillin, were ejected from the UTV. Randy McMillin was pronounced dead at the scene while Mary Ann McMillin suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to University of Iowa Health Care.
Steve’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 10th in Clayton County District Court.
