Charles City Police Chief and Public Safety Director Hugh Anderson joined us on Community Conversations with reminders for winter drivers after an injury accident on 8th Avenue, plus a heads-up on snow ordinance enforcement in town. He also explained what the city considers a nuisance property—including how “abandoned” or unregistered vehicles are handled—and why those issues tend to pop up as the snow melts. Anderson also talked about Iowa’s hands-free driving law, what drivers can and can’t do with a phone behind the wheel, and shared a quick update on the City Hall/Police Department renovation timeline.

For official updates, winter enforcement reminders, and public safety information, follow the Charles City Police Department on Facebook or visit the City of Charles City website.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City, which basically means he’s been corn‑fed and radio‑bred since day one. As a kid, he was always caught singing along to the radio — and while he’ll tell you he’s great at karaoke, let’s just say the audience’s ears often file a noise complaint. When he’s not busy butchering ‘80s power ballads, Chris enjoys starting overly ambitious home projects that rarely make it past the “great idea” stage. He lives in Charles City with his endlessly patient wife Vicki and their kids, Brynlee and Jaxon, who have already perfected the art of the eye‑roll every time Dad cracks another “dad joke.”
