2026 Iowa Girls State Wrestling Recap: Denver State 1A Team Champs, Osage’s Hemann Wins 2nd Title

Three individual champions powered Denver to the team title at the Iowa Girls High School State Wrestling Tournament in Coralville last Friday (02.06).
The Cyclones crowned state champs in Abigail Peterson at 100 pounds, Violet Diaz at 110 pounds, her second straight title, and Lilli Cooper at 130 pounds. Kennedy Burk was the state runner-up at 190 pounds.
Denver’s Jared Pickett also received his award as the Class 1A coach of the year.
In other results, Ainsley Hemann of Osage claimed the Class 1A title at 105 pounds, her second state title. Teammate Lauren Adams was third at 125 pounds and Ayden Keefe fourth at 130 as the Green Devils finished third in the team standings.
Also claiming a state individual title was Grace Storjohann of Aplington Parkersburg-Grundy Center at 125 pounds. She was state runner-up last year.
Cresco-Crestwood’s Rose Niewoehner, who took down the #1 seed at 235 pounds on day one of the tournament, finished as the state runner up on Friday.
