Kilcher, Martzahn Receive Daisy Awards for Being Extraordinary Nurses at FCMC

A historic moment occurred last week at Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) in Charles City.

FCMC’s Daisy Committee surprised team members Amy Kilcher (RN) and Sonni Martzahn (RN/IBCLC) with the prestigious Daisy Award which recognizes Extraordinary Nurses.

Daisy coordinator Allie Wesselmann (RN) says, “This is the first time our DAISY Committee has recognized two nurses at the same time for the exceptional care they provide to our patients and families. Amy and Sonni’s kindness, clinical skill, and support for their teammates truly reflect the values of our organization and the heart of the DAISY Award.”

Kari Wright submitted the winning nomination that chronicled the story of the pivotal role that Kilcher and Martzahn played in the birth of her grandchild.

Wright says, “My daughter, Madison, came into the OB department to deliver her first baby. From the moment we arrived, these two incredible nurses went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable, cared for, calm, and had all her questions answered.”

Wright adds, “When it came time for the delivery, they were there cheering her on and supporting her in every way possible as if she were their own daughter. Even after the delivery (of baby Monroe), they didn’t leave Madison’s side for well over an hour. We will forever be grateful to these two knowledgeable and incredibly compassionate nurses.”

Kilcher and Martzahn were presented their Daisy Awards last Friday (02.06). They are the fourth and fifth nurses to be honored at FCMC, with previous recipients including Darlene Nierling (RN), Jennifer Erikson (RN), and Nicole Thorson (RN).
