Floyd County to Add Weather Camera to Rockford Communications Tower

In an effort to increase tracking of severe weather, Floyd County will have a new camera mounted on the Rockford communications tower.
Emergency Management Agency Director Jason Webster approached the Board of Supervisors Tuesday (02.10) about adding the camera to help officials, and the public, keep an eye on threatening or severe weather.
Webster says the camera system will also allow them to review weather events after they happen.
Webster noted the camera can help track other events as well.
Still, the camera will have some limitations.
Supervisors unanimously approved a one-time cost of almost $8,700, which covers the camera equipment, installation, and a 10-year licensing agreement. Payment for the project will come out of proceeds from the bond that paid for the new communications tower near Rockford. Thus, the expense will not be a cost to taxpayers.
No date was given as to when the camera will be up and operational, but Webster says installation details are in the works.
