Osage’s Fox 4X State Champ, Denver’s Landers, White Notch Multiple Crowns

Osage wrestler Blake Fox is now a four-time state champ.
Fox claimed his latest crown Saturday (02.21) at the Iowa High School Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines, winning 14-2 in the Class 2A finals at 150-pounds over Ben Walsh of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Fox, who won the 144-pound title last year, capped his senior season at 49-0.
Also finishing atop the podium, for the third time, is Denver’s Gavin Landers, who beat New Hampton-Turkey Valley’s Carter Cajthaml 11-3 in the Class 2A title bout between two juniors at 138 pounds. Landers won the 126-pound title last year and the 113 crown as a freshman. For Cajthaml, it’s a state runner-up finish for the second straight year.
Also finishing as state runner-up was Kyle Kuboushek of South Winneshiek at 165 in Class 1A and Gavin Muller of Osage at 215 in Class 2A.
Claiming his second state title is Boden White of Denver, who won the 2A crown at 165-pounds after taking the top spot at 157-pounds a year ago.
Other area Class 2A place winners include Cresco-Crestwood’s Carter Schmauss third at 132, North Fayette Valley’s Jaxson Lundgren fifth at 144, North Fayette Valley’s Layne Kleppe fifth at 285 and Cresco-Crestwood’s Mitchell Williams seventh at 120.
Other area Class 1A place winners include Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Sam Egan 5th at 132, Saint Ansgar’s Trace Huisman 7th at 138, South Winneshiek’s Landen Schnuelle 7th at 175, Central Springs Lincoln Blickenderfer 7th at 190, Sumner-Fred’s Jase Jones 8th at 144, and Riceville’s Reagan Richardson 8th at 190.
Decorah won the Class 2A team crown for the first time in school history on the strength of seven place winners, including state runner-up Bill Fullhart at 165-pounds, with the Vikings’ Thomas Sexton third at 190. Osage was ninth in the team standings with 72 points, with Denver 10th at 70 points.
In Class 3A, Waverly-Shell Rock’s Kipton Lewis won the 120-pound title.
