Osage/Riceville Shared Superintendent Schwamman to Resign

A pair of north Iowa school districts will be searching for a new superintendent.

Barb Schwamman has announced she will resign as the shared superintendent for Osage and Riceville schools. Schwamman has held the position for the past 11 years in Osage and has been shared in Riceville for the last nine years.

In a letter to the Riceville School Board and the Riceville community posted on social media, Schwamman noted her resignation will be effective at the end of the current school year, which is June 30th.

In her letter, Schwamman said, “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve both districts and their greater communities. Our family moved in July of 2015, and we have been truly blessed and proud to be part of these communities for over a decade.”

She noted, “Over the coming months, I will remain fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition for the next superintendent.”

Schwamman has accepted a leadership position as Director of District and School Support with Keystone Area Education Agency (AEA), beginning July 1st, pending Keystone AEA Board approval this Thursday (02.26).

Schwamman said her new role “offers an opportunity to work in close partnership with school districts and accredited non-public schools to strengthen instructional systems, address achievement gaps, and improve outcomes for all learners through integrated agency services.”
