Northeast Iowa Woman Convicted of Mother’s Murder

Almost three years after the crime, a northeast Iowa woman has been found guilty of killing her mother.

A Black Hawk County jury on Wednesday (02.25) convicted 36-year-old Sarah Nagy Brown of Waterloo for first-degree murder in the May 2023 death of her mother, 54-year old Roberta Nagy.

Brown’s defense attorneys claimed Roberta Nagy stabbed herself in the neck and then strangled herself with a phone charging cord.

Under Iowa law, a conviction of first-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole.

Brown’s sentencing date has been set for April 13th.
