Bosnian Man Sentenced to Prison for Receiving Child Pornography in Northeast Iowa

A Bosnian man who received child pornography while living in northeast Iowa has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison.
In a plea agreement, 61-year-old Hazim Kapic admitted that he downloaded child pornography from February 2020 until August 2024. In August 2024, law enforcement officers searched his home in Waterloo and seized a hard drive with thousands of images and videos of child pornography, including those of prepubescent minors. Kapic had depictions of child pornography involving an infant or toddler, and depictions involving sadistic and masochistic conduct.
In September 2025, Kapic pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography. On Monday (03.02), Kapic was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 120 months in federal prison and ordered to make $18,000 in restitution to victims in the case.
He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
Kapic is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Waterloo Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
