Depot/Train Museum Project in Charles City Continues to Move Down the Tracks

Curators of the old train depot that is part of the American Passenger Train History Museum in Charles City have been approved for a $25,000 advance from the City for the installation of restrooms for the section of the building that will serve as a trailhead for the adjacent Charley Western Trail.
Bob Moen told the City Council last Monday (03.02) night recent developments include measures for fire suppression and new lighting to deter vandalism.
Councilwoman Krista Noah expressed caution about water damage.
Moen said they’re working to implement as many safeguards as possible for the building while the overall project appears set for significant progress.
Moen also noted that they’re utilizing all incoming funding.
The $25,000 approved by the Council this week represents half of the City’s commitment of $50,000 to The Depot, with the latter payment expected after “substantial completion” of the restrooms, though Moen said he couldn’t promise they’d be ready by next summer.
