Purple Heart Tour Bringing Veterans to Northeast Iowa for Hunts and Healing

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS BROUGHT TO YOU BY FLOYD COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER

Coloff Media’s Jim Coloff spoke with Jamey Welter and Shane Hoff of the Purple Heart Tour, an organization that brings veterans and active-duty service members to Northeast Iowa for hosted hunting trips as a way to reconnect, relax, and experience the outdoors.
The group hosts several hunts each year—including turkey, pheasant, deer, and muzzleloader hunts—serving roughly 25 to 27 troops annually. Once participants arrive in Iowa, all expenses for the hunt are covered through community support, donations, and fundraising efforts.
This year’s turkey hunt is scheduled for April 22–26, and the organization continues raising funds through events like its annual golf tournaments in Clarksville in June and Nashua in September.
