Floyd Co. Conservation Offers Hunters Ed, Turkey Hunting Courses in March

Registration is still open for this Saturday’s (03.21) Hunter’s Education course at the Fossil and Prairie Park Preserve near Rockford.
Floyd County Conservation Naturalist Heidi Reams says the one-day “live-firing” class begins at 1 pm.
The mandatory program is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities. The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, the basics of wildlife management, hunting laws and firearm/archery safety. Hunter education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.
Iowa law requires anyone born after January 1, 1972 be certified in hunter education before they’re eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.
Reams says Floyd County Conservation is also teaming up with the Iowa DNR to offer a “Learn to Turkey Hunt” class from 2 to 5 pm Sunday, March 29 at the Tosanak Recreation Area near Marble Rock.
All attendees will also receive a special gift to help with your next hunt. Class size is limited to 15.
