Floyd County Medical Center Represented at Hospital Day on the Hill

More than 240 hospital leaders, healthcare professionals and advocates, representing 76 Iowa hospitals and health systems across the state, gathered at the Iowa State Capitol for the Iowa Hospital Association’s (IHA) annual Hospital Day on the Hill last Wednesday (3.11).

IHA President and CEO Chris Mitchell said, “Iowa hospitals are essential to the health and economic vitality of our communities. Hospital Day on the Hill provides an opportunity for legislators to hear directly from hospital and health system representatives about the challenges and opportunities facing Iowa’s healthcare system.”

Local leadership from Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) attended, including CEO Dawnett Willis, Trustees Randy Heitz and Cheryl Erb, and Executive Administrative Assistant Lisa Kreger.

Willis noted, “Hospital Day on the Hill is an important opportunity for rural hospitals like Floyd County Medical Center to ensure the voices of our communities are heard in conversations that shape healthcare policy. Access to high-quality care close to home is essential for the families we serve. Engaging directly with our legislators helps ensure rural hospitals can continue providing the services our communities depend on today and into the future.”

Participants discussed key issues including workforce shortages, improving access to care for rural and underserved communities, as well as efforts to lower healthcare costs. They also shared stories illustrating how legislative decisions impact patients, healthcare providers and local economies.
