June Primary Candidate Lists Set in Floyd, Chickasaw Counties

There will be some new names on the ballots for the June Primaries vying for supervisor seats in Chickasaw and Floyd Counties.
Last Friday (03.20) at 5 pm was the deadline for candidates to file along party lines for the June Primary Election. In Floyd County, incumbent Republican Boyd Campbell filed as seeks re-election as the District 3 Supervisor, while Darrin White* has also filed to challenge Campbell on June 2nd. The winner will advance to the general election in November, with no Democratic candidate to face at this point currently. (*in a previous story, we incorrectly identified White as a Democratic candidate; we apologize for the error)
Another Floyd County Supervisor post is up for election in November, but only one candidate has filed, with Charles City School Board member Josh Mack running as a Democrat for the District 2 seat currently held by Frank Rottinghaus, also a Democrat. Rottinghaus, who was elected in a special election last September, did not file by the deadline to run.
Rottinghaus defeated Republican Josh Neupert for the post to fill out the remaining term of Supervisor Dennis Keifer, who passed away last June.
In Chickasaw County, incumbent District 2 Supervisor Scott Cerwinske, a Republican, has filed for the June Primary in his effort to seek re-election. Also filing for the seat on the Democratic side is Bassett Mayor Jim Ashley.
The District 5 Supervisor post also has two candidates who have filed to run, including incumbent Republican Travis Suckow. He will be challenged by Jason Byrne, who filed papers to run in the Democratic primary.
One other contested race shaping up in Chickasaw County is Recorder, with incumbent Shirley Troyna filing to run in the Democratic Primary and Gina Fangman filing on the Republican side.
Other incumbents who will seek re-election, currently unopposed, include Floyd County Recorder Amy Assink, Treasurer Jessie Holm and Attorney Todd Prichard. In Chickasaw County, that list includes Treasurer Matt Ysbrand and Attorney David Laudner.
