Terms of City, County Contract with AMR Ambulance Undecided

Floyd County and the City of Charles City are still uncertain what their next contract AMR Ambulance will look like when the new fiscal year begins July 1st.
The current contract with AMR is set to expire June 30th, the end of the current fiscal year. In this final year of a three-year agreement, the County and City have subsidized operational costs for the private ambulance by splitting payment to AMR of about $445,000.
At present, the cost of the next contract has not been decided. During Tuesday’s Floyd County Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Frank Rottinghaus, a member of the City/County Ambulance Commission, said conversations with AMR continue.
While the final cost is undecided, Board Chair Gloria Carr noted that the County has budgeted for an increase for their portion of the next subsidy payment.
In addition to the County and City uncertainty over what they will jointly pay AMR after July 1st, Rottinghaus also noted that their arrangement with Floyd County Medical Center, to provide financial assistance for the subsidy payment, is also set to end June 30th. In the current arrangement, FCMC has paid $50,000 each to the City and County in each of the last three years.
The next Ambulance Commission meeting is currently set for April 9th, when the group could also continue discussion of a possible feasibility study to determine if the City and County stays with AMR or eventually looks at starting its own municipal ambulance, like Chickasaw County did in 2023.
