New Hampton City Council To Hold Three Public Hearings Monday (04.06) Night

The New Hampton City Council will hold a public hearing Monday (04.06) at 7 pm on the proposed property tax rates for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

As published in the hearing notification, the property tax rate in New Hampton will decrease from $13.75 per $1,000 of taxable valuation in the current fiscal year, which ends June 30th, down to $13.44 starting July 1st.

However, City Clerk Karen Clemens says, due to increased valuations, residential tax payments will go up by just over one-percent, with commercial property payments to increase by about 8.5%.

Clemens notes that the tax rates could still be lowered when the Council holds the FY27 budget public hearing on April 20th. She says City staff have worked hard to keep costs in check.

The tax levy hearing will be followed by a separate public hearing on entering into a loan agreement to borrow $12 million for a host of street improvement projects, which Clemens says their time has come.

Clemens advises residents that the borrowing does not include any money towards construction of the new wastewater treatment plant.

The Council will also hold a public hearing on a loan agreement to borrow $225,000 to help pay for municipal parking lot improvements.

All three public hearings will be held in the Council Chambers.
