GoFundMe Account Set Up for Family of Man Who Died in Charles City House Fire
A GoFundMe account has been established for the family of the Charles City man who died in a house fire Monday (04.06).
The Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) responded to a structure fire at 105 Hart Street, just after 4:30 pm Monday afternoon, and found the single-story, single-family residence with heavy smoke and fire. CCFD firefighters immediately began a fire attack, with mutual aid from the Colwell, Floyd, Rockford, Marble Rock, and Rudd fire departments.
Fire Chief Sam Deverell said close to 30 firefighters battled the blaze until around 8 PM when the fire was contained, with CCFD on scene until about 1145 PM Monday night.
The structure is a total loss, with one fatality in the blaze, Ray Vandeventer. His body was taken to the state medical examiner for an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
A GoFundMe on behalf of Vandeventer’s daughter, Bobbie Wessling, has been set up to help with funeral and associated costs. The account description notes that her father did not have insurance on the home.
There is a goal of $5,500, with about $4,500 raised as of 12:45 pm Thursday (04.09).
